These features are in the released Mango 3.1 family. Server-dependent features need compatible IRC server or bouncer support. The release notes describe what changed; the Support page is the place to ask about your setup.
Your purchase includes access to Mango Account: use a passkey to join the Mango IRC Network, manage files with Mango Uploads, and fetch supported remote content privately through Mango Proxy. Account creation and service rules apply. Set up Mango Account · Service terms
Native on Mac, iPhone, iPad, and iPhone Duo
- Native chat rendering and scrolling, with compact, stacked, and bubble layouts. Choose fonts, nickname colors, and timestamps with optional seconds.
- Mac keyboard shortcuts, a jump palette, tab completion, native windows for direct messages, and side-by-side conversations where space allows.
- iPhone and iPad layouts adapt to the available space. iPhone Duo supports folded and open layouts, pinch overview, and two-pane conversations.
- One App Store purchase covers Mac, iPhone, and iPad, with Family Sharing. Networks and selected settings can sync through iCloud; preferences can remain device-local.
Find the conversation and keep your place
- Connect to multiple networks, organize channels and direct messages, search channels, and use familiar IRC slash commands.
- Search messages with a chat toolbar, jump between matches, and highlight search terms. Earlier server-side search requires compatible bouncer support.
- Browse and search mentions across retained conversations, jump to the original message, and follow unread messages and read markers.
- Restore recent conversations from the encrypted local cache. Request earlier history from servers or bouncers that support CHATHISTORY.
- Reply threads use the history available to Mango. Choose quote or original-message presentations; channel pins require a compatible server.
More than plain text
- Link titles, favicons, and rich image previews, including SVG avatars and previews. Choose full previews, enriched links, or plain URLs; automatic remote content can be disabled or blocked by domain.
- Play supported video and YouTube links inline on demand. Audio links have waveform players with playback controls.
- Emoji reactions, server-provided custom emoji, and image-link stickers on compatible networks.
- Format outgoing IRC text with bold, italic, underline, strikethrough, monospace, and foreground or background colors.
- Paste or upload images and files through an available file host. Mango Uploads adds a library to browse, play, re-share, and manage your uploaded files; it requires a Mango Account.
Your networks and bouncers
- Connect directly to IRC networks over TCP or TLS, or use WebSocket on compatible servers. SASL authentication and IRCv3 capabilities are negotiated with each network.
- Use soju or ZNC with network discovery, selection, and connection management. A bouncer can retain conversations while Mango is disconnected.
- Push notifications require a compatible bouncer or server and setup. Direct IRC alone does not keep Mango connected while iOS suspends the app.
- Connect to other IRC networks without a Mango Account. Those networks may require their own account. The optional Mango IRC Network uses Mango Account passkey sign-in.
Make IRC feel like home
- Built-in Mango, Rosé Pine, Moon, Dawn, and Nord palettes, plus free themes from the Theme Store and a documented custom theme format.
- Choose layouts, fonts, avatars, sidebar badges, connection indicators, and message actions. Search Settings instead of hunting through tabs.
- Choose Mango sounds, available system sounds, or imported audio for messages and notifications. Sounds are off by default and configured separately on each device.
- Grove extensions are included in Mango 3.1. Install curated tools or create JavaScript extensions for commands, message processing, and composer or channel interfaces. Review permissions before starting them.
Control what gets fetched
- Remote previews, favicons, titles, and avatars may contact external services. Choose plain links or disable remote content when that matters to you.
- With a Mango Account, Mango Proxy can fetch supported remote content so destination sites see a Cloudflare address rather than your IP address. Direct fallback is opt-in; a proxy is not end-to-end encryption.
- Message retention, history, replies, reactions, pins, and read-marker synchronization depend on the capabilities and policies of your IRC server or bouncer.
- Matrix support is planned, not part of the released IRC feature set. Mango is proprietary Apple-platform software, not a Windows or Android client.
Before you choose an IRC client
Is Mango 3.1 released?
Yes. Mango 3.1 is available on the App Store for Mac, iPhone, and iPad. TestFlight is for upcoming development updates, not a requirement for using the released app.
How much does Mango cost, and what is included?
$4.99 USD as a one-time universal purchase for Mac, iPhone, and iPad, with Family Sharing. Regional App Store prices may vary. The purchase also gives you access to Mango Account and its included Mango IRC Network, Mango Uploads, and Mango Proxy features. Create your account in Mango using a passkey; service terms and limits apply.
Does Mango support iPhone Duo?
Yes. Mango 3.1.2 supports adaptive iPhone Duo layouts for folded and open modes, pinch overview, and two-pane conversations.
Is Mango a suitable IRC client for macOS, iOS, or iPadOS?
Mango is an option if you want a native Apple client, one purchase across your devices, configurable chat layouts, and modern IRCv3 and bouncer support. It requires macOS 15, iOS 17, or iPadOS 17 or later. If you need Windows, Android, or open-source software, choose another client.
Do I need a bouncer or Mango Account?
Neither is required to connect to an ordinary IRC network. A bouncer is useful for retaining conversations while you are offline, especially on iPhone and iPad. A Mango Account unlocks Mango Uploads, Mango Proxy, and authenticated access to the Mango IRC Network. The network guide describes guest access. Individual IRC networks may require their own account.
Will every IRC network have replies, reactions, history, and push?
No. Mango negotiates IRCv3 capabilities with each server or bouncer. Features that need server support are available only when it is provided; retained history and thread views can only show messages available to Mango.
